Wow
Thats basically the three letter word that describes my INCREDIBLE vacation this past week. The cool thing I really love about England is that we have these week long breaks every few weeks. So while all my american friends are sitting in school, I'm on a nice week long holiday.
On this special occasion, since my mom couldn't go on vacation due to an important board meeting, Gina and I went on the school ski trip to Bormio, Italy, a small ski town about 4 hours north of Milan near the border with Switzerland. Lets just say it was amazing
Last year, when I went to Austria, the slopes were quite narrow and so over crowded that the snow became either ice or slush, depending on the temperature, however in Bormio the slopes were as wide as in the Western US, and almost no crowds cept for a few Italians on the weekend.
I was placed in the expert group along with my sister, Gina, and one of my best friends, Dylan, along with some pretty other awesome people. Together we did lots of fun things such as jumps, moguls, and the terrain park, which included a half-pipe. I can't tell you how many times I actually ate it.
From the beginning of the week to the end, I made HUGE improvements. I love how we get to ski with an instructor almost all day, and it really helps develop and polish technique, as well as sets us up for free-skiing with our friends in the afternoon. By the end, I was going off jumps, going straight down the slopes, and perfecting my mogul runs.
As much as the hotel and food kinda sucked (the hotel was more like a hostel, while the food was...well...we didnt know what kind of meat we were eating :P) However, the activities planned were pretty fun. We went bowling at a four-lane bowling alley where we didnt have to wear bowling shoes and the lanes werent waxed??? We went Ice Skating at a huge olympic rink, shopping in Bormio where we ate at an amazing Italian pizzaria (I had two WHOLE pizzas!), and swimming at a natural hot springs pool (the pool had a lazy river, jacuzzi lounge chairs, and a water slide!). We also played a pretty intense game of bingo and I really enjoyed just chillin out with my friends.
Overall, the ski trip was an INCREDIBLE experience! And I can't wait till next year.
